WILL ANY OF MY PHONE’S DATA ALLOWANCE BE USED WITH FREE WI-FI NATION?
No. This is a Wi-Fi only service and is completely free of charge. Please ensure that your phone displays the Wi-Fi symbol when accessing the hotspot and, if you would like an added precaution to avoid using mobile data if you drop out of Wi-Fi range, you can disable mobile data in your phone’s settings.
WHAT ARE THE SPEEDS LIKE AT FREE WI-FI NATION HOTSPOTS?
Speeds on the service may vary. When connected to the hotspot, you should be able to undertake activities such as sending emails and browsing the net, but video playback and peer-to-peer downloading are restricted. Please keep in mind that the experience on a public hotspot is influenced by several factors, including the number of users connected to that hotspot at a given time, the distance from the hotspot and the surrounding environment.
WHY DO I SEE ADVERTISING EVERY TIME I LOG ON?
Our sponsors and advertisers allow us to be able to offer the service free of charge to our users. We encourage all of our users who appreciate the service to show support for our partners, by visiting their website or trying out the products and services that are being promoted through Free Wi-Fi Nation.
HOW SECURE IS A FREE WI-FI NATION HOTSPOT?
A Free Wi-Fi Nation hotspot is open and public. You can start a session on the network without credentials, simply by waiting for the connect button to appear after the messages of our sponsors and advertisers. We recommend that you don’t send or receive sensitive personal information or carry out activities like internet banking when using any unsecured public Wi-Fi connection.
WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION IS BEING COLLECTED WHEN I CONNECT?
We value your privacy and will not collect information that could personally identify you as an individual. We only collect anonymous data about your use of the Wi-Fi service, as well as anonymous demographic data related to your device that you have already have given permission to your device and its apps to share.
THE HOTSPOT I CONNECTED TO WAS SLOW…WHY IS THIS?
The speed at any hotspot is determined by the number of users accessing the hotspot at any one time, combined with how much bandwidth is allocated to that hotspot. Sometimes, the amount of users can unexpectedly exceed the amount of bandwidth available at a location, leading to slow connection speeds. We encourage you to try again at another location or at another time for an improved experience. Speeds should generally improve over time as we better understand the user traffic at each location.
CAN YOU INSTALL FREE WI-FI NATION AT MY HOME?
Afraid not! Free Wi-Fi Nation is a public Wi-Fi service available at key public locations throughout Seychelles, and not a residential service. However, our sister company Kokonet is a licensed ISP in Seychelles, and may be able to provide you with a home Internet connection at affordable rates. Please contact them here.
I HAVE A BUSINESS AND WANT TO OFFER FREE WI-FI TO MY CUSTOMERS…CAN YOU HELP?
Maybe! We are always looking to expand our network if it adds value for our users. Please visit our Venue section of the site, or access the Venue FAQ here, for more information about applying to set up a Free Wi-Fi Nation at your business location.
